Philosophy of Value Education in the Context of Modern India

The notion of 'value' is basically Western and the examination of this concept is a recent phenomenon in India. Simply speaking, value stands for the worth of a thing or action or disposition; while valuation stands for the estimation. The realm of values is ordinarily distinguished from that of facts. But philosophers, theologians, psychologists, economists and other specialists have given connotations so very different from one another that a new researcher in the field finds it somehow bewildering. Some feel that the highly used and misused word 'value' should give way to a more precisely defined word. But at the same time, many issues involved in various definitions are so important that they cannot be washed away.
