View comparePalaeomagnetic studies in India made an early beginning under the leadership of Professor P.M.S.Blackett who with admirable foresight started a unit at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay. C. Radha krishnamurty was one of the earliest to be recruited to carry such studies. The early work initiated on the Rajmahal traps proved to be full of promise. This work confirmed that India had moved from southern latitude to its present position, 30 north of the equator, thus confirming the drift of continents.
