Lal Kitab, which literally translates to Red Book, is a big book of Vedic Astrology. A mixture of two forms, Lal Kitab: English Version of the Most Famous and Rare Book on Astrology. Believed to have Persian origins, poetic verses bound in philosophy are the core elements of this book. The book provides remedies for various planetary conflicts that affect the horoscope and birth charts. Lal Kitab remedies have become famous as a folk tradition in many parts of North India and Pakistan.

The book is actually a compilation of five books in Urdu. They are based on the Samudrika Shastra and were written in the 19th century. Apart from astrology, the book also deals with palmistry. The book is the first to explain how planetary positions can affect palm lines. The original red binding of the book gave it its name. Several common Hindu practices like feeding grass to cows, throwing coins into a river and offering food to young girls, all originated from this book.

Various tales have been told about the lineage of this book. Some believe that Ravana, after losing his power, wrote this book, after which it surfaced in Arabia and was then translated to Urdu and Persian. Originally written in Urdu, Lal Kitab: English Version of the Most Famous and Rare Book on Astrology Originally Written in Urdu by Pt Rameshwar Mitra was published by Manoj in 2010 and it is available in paperback.

    Key Features:
